We began our agency operations in Ventura County, California in 1986. In 2000, we moved the agency to Sonoma County, California where it is located today. We continue to write and serve clients all across the state of California.
We’re celebrating 40 years with CIG! Our long-standing relationship with the CIG team means we can assist our clients with deep experience handling complex insurance questions and needs.
Our business is built on satisfied clients who refer us to family and friends. Many clients rely on us to instruct and educate the next generation as they purchase their first cars and homes and rental properties.

McKenzie Smith, President
McKenzie was raised in the Chicago area and graduated from Kendall College with a BS in Business Administration. Shortly after graduation, he sought out a career in insurance as an independent agent and was appointed with CIG. He’s the third generation in his family to pursue a career in property and casualty insurance. McKenzie focuses on landlord and commercial lines and guides our agency producers.
Francesca Smith, Vice President
Francesca Smith was raised in Chicago and graduated from University of Illinois. Soon after graduation, she relocated to California and completed her MBA at California Lutheran University. Francesca works with client families on homeowners, renters and auto insurance. She focuses on client services and directs our support team.
Celebrating 40 Years
“Seems like only yesterday we were listening to the Bangles and Bon Jovi,” reminisced Francesca Smith, Vice President, McKenzie Smith Insurance Agency, LLC, on the agency’s upcoming 40-year milestone. “The property and casualty insurance industry has evolved over four decades, with the last decade being the most turbulent and challenging.”
Through it all, McKenzie Smith Insurance works with clients and insurance carriers to identify coverage solutions that make sense. Realtors, mortgage brokers and lenders rely on the agency’s expertise and dedication to client service and its commitment as a both industry and community partner.
The agency’s long-time relationship with CIG (Capital Insurance Group) started back in the 1980s when the agency was based in Ventura, California. A move to Sonoma County, just north of San Francisco, 25 years ago broadened the agency’s reach. And the connection to CIG remains strong.
“It’s a source of great pride to me,” explained agency President, McKenzie Smith, “to have third-generation clients referring their friends and family. We are for some families, their ‘go-to’ agency and our business grows mostly from referrals and word-of-mouth in the community. CIG has been at the core of our growth for four decades.”
